Deciphering Those Baccarat Terms

Baccarat terms are not as numerous or complex as compared to those of other games. Nevertheless you should still be informed on what those phrases actually mean so that you won't be caught unaware. Baccarat: the name of the game actually means zero, the worst kind of hand total any player can get.

Baccarat en Banque: a variant of the game with rules quite similar to Punto Banco.

Banco: this Baccarat term is used by a player to let the caller know he or she will wager all the chips, equivalent to a Poker all in bet.

Coup: the term used to express a single hand or game of Baccarat.

Croupier: The official name of the caller. Technically the individual that distributes the cards and payouts is the caller, and the individuals besides her are the dealers but they are now used interchangeably.

Le Grande: being dealt a nine. It is also called a natural, as in Blackjack.

Mini Baccarat: very similar to the regular game except the tables are smaller and there is only one dealer. This is the game that "ordinary" players participate in, with the bigger versions reserved for high rollers.

Muck: this is the name of the eight decks used in the game. This is not to be confused wih the Poker term for throwing away a hand Palette: the wooden tool used by the croupier to handle all the cards on the table.

Petite: this refers to a player who gets an 8.

Shills: this Baccarat term is used to refer to young women that are utilized by casinos to draw in other players.

The Shooter: this is a moniker for the banker.

Standoff: a tie. In most variations of the game the bets remain unchanged.

Vigorish: also known as the vig or cut, this is the commission that the casinos receive per hand.

These are the most frequent Baccarat terms you'll hear from seasoned players, or read in online gambling sites. Memorize them and no one will even guess that you are new to the game.
